Limestone Cleaning, Sealing & Restoration Burnside - Adelaide

Limestone is found in some of the world's most beautiful buildings, a natural stone that gives any area a beautiful rustic, earthy and natural look. Limestone is a great choice in warmer climates due to its tendency to remain quite cool. StoneMaster® can resurface, hone, repair, strip, clean and seal your limestone in Burnside and the surrounding areas.
Limestone is a sedimentary stone, traditionally found throughout the Mediterranean and Europe. Limestone is formed at the bottom of the ocean, and is made up wholly or mainly of calcium carbonate. In its purest form limestone is white, but it can also be coloured using other materials. The calcite itself is sourced from the shells and bones of marine organisms. The build up over many years preserves these materials into fossils. Millions of years of pressure and heat cause a chemical reaction, turning the sediment into limestone.

Older buildings can often be found with durable limestone flooring, usually the chalky, porous variety commonplace in most Spanish and French limestone. Acids, from minor spillages of soft drink and other substances, can cause instant etching. Being porous it absorbs oils and other liquids and is more easily stained than marble or granite. This variety is composed of calcite and some magnesium and varies in hardness and durability. It has a smooth granular feel and comes in a number of different colours such as black, white, grey, yellow and brown.
Limestone is quite a delicate variety of stone. Limestone tiles are very porous and quite susceptible to scratches, stains and fracturing, meaning they can damage easily when handled incorrectly. Limestone is a natural product that needs to breathe, therefor instead of coating the stone with synthetic sealers or urethane, StoneMaster® protects your limestone using our highest quality impregnating penetrating sealer which allows your natural stone to breathe freely and at the same time, provide the highest quality protection against staining. StoneMaster® use a product called Deepshield™ Transparent Penetrating Sealer, a water-based product meaning you can rest assured absolutely no toxic chemicals or any other hazardous substances are used which can be detrimental to you, your family and your pets.

Limestone tiles are very porous and quite susceptible to scratches, stains and fracturing. Limestone is a natural product, which needs to breathe and not be coated with synthetic sealers or urethane. StoneMaster® provides the right solution, protecting your limestone by using highly penetrating, impregnating sealers.

The main cause for polished limestone floors becoming dull is foot traffic. Sustained walking eventually grinds away, compacting dust, sand and grit. Although the scratching that occurs is quite fine, it eventually dulls the surface to the point where the stone loses its reflective properties. To restore your limestone surfaces to their smooth and reflective state, StoneMaster® operate state of the art high-speed polishers.

Limestone Tiles
The tiles should be sealed with a deep penetrating sealer, such asDeepshield™ Transparent Penetrating Sealer, which avoids staining and reduces the effect of soiling. They should only be cleaned with a pH neutral detergent. Because the product is relatively soft, it is important not to clean at pressures higher than recommended and in that case only when the grout is of good quality.
In order to preserve its polished and honed presentation, professional and regular maintenance is required. Limestone appears best with a honed, or low/medium sheen, although some people prefer a high shine finish. A few varieties of lower calcite limestone’s can prove harder to polish and as a result vitrification is required, unfortunately when vitrification is repeated too often the stone can develop an undesirable plastic appearance.
